Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground chicken – Lean but still moist; avoid extra-lean to prevent dryness.
  • ½ cup panko breadcrumbs – Adds texture and helps bind the patties.
  • 1 large egg – Acts as a binder to keep the patties from falling apart.
  • 2 tbsp mayonnaise – Adds moisture and enhances juiciness.

Spices & Seasonings:

  • 1 tsp smoked paprika – Gives a deep, smoky flavor.
  • 1 tsp garlic powder – Essential for a well-rounded taste.
  • ½ tsp onion powder – Enhances the overall seasoning.
  • ½ tsp cayenne pepper – Adjust based on your spice preference.
  • ½ tsp cumin – Adds warmth and depth to the spice blend.
  • ½ tsp salt – Balances flavors.
  • ½ tsp black pepper – Provides a subtle heat.

For Cooking:

  • 2 tbsp oil (vegetable or avocado oil) – Needed for pan-frying to achieve a crispy crust.

Optional Additions:

  • ½ tsp red pepper flakes – For an extra spicy kick.
  • 1 tbsp chopped fresh cilantro or parsley – Adds freshness.
  • ¼ cup finely diced onions or bell peppers – Enhances texture and flavor.

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Chicken Mixture

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine ground chicken, panko breadcrumbs, egg, and mayonnaise.
  2. Add all the seasonings: smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, cumin, salt, and black pepper.
  3. If using optional ingredients like red pepper flakes, cilantro, or diced onions, mix them in at this stage.
  4. Use a spoon or your hands to mix until all ingredients are evenly distributed. Do not overmix, as this can make the patties dense.

Step 2: Shape the Patties

  1. Lightly oil your hands to prevent sticking.
  2. Divide the mixture into 4-6 equal portions, depending on your preferred patty size.
  3. Shape each portion into a round patty, about ½-inch thick.

Place the patties on a plate or parchment-lined tray and refrigerate for 15-20 minutes. This helps the patties stay firm and prevents them from breaking apart during cooking.

Cooking Methods:

Option 1: Pan-Frying for a Crispy Crust (Best for Maximum Flavor)

  1. Add 2 tablespoons of oil to a large skillet and heat it over medium heat.
  1. Add the patties once the oil is hot, ensuring they do not overlap.
  2. Cook for 4-5 minutes per side, flipping once, until the patties are golden brown and crispy.
  3. Use a thermometer to check for an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
  4. Transfer the patties to a paper towel-lined plate to absorb excess oil.

Option 2: Baking for a Healthier Alternative

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and lightly grease it.
  3. Arrange the patties on the sheet and bake for 18-20 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  4. Check for an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) before removing from the oven.

Option 3: Air Frying for Convenience

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Lightly grease the air fryer basket and place the patties inside in a single layer.
  3. Air fry for 10-12 minutes, flipping at the 5-minute mark, until golden and fully cooked.
  4. Ensure they reach an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
