  • 1 cup marinara sauce, plus more for dipping
  • 1.5 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 12-16 slices pepperoni, or cooked sausage, or vegetables Choose your favorite filling
  • 1 large egg, beaten, for egg wash Optional, for golden top
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil For brushing
Spices and Seasoning
  • 0.5 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon dried oregano
  • to taste Salt and pepper
  • optional grated Parmesan for topping For extra flavor

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your air fryer to 370°F, about 3 to 5 minutes.
  2. Lightly flour a clean surface and roll the pizza dough into a rough circle, about 10 to 12 inches across.
  3. Cut the dough into 4 equal pieces, or use a round cutter to make 4 to 6 circles, depending on your size choice.
  4. Mix olive oil, garlic powder, oregano, salt, and pepper. Brush a little oil on the edges of each dough piece.
  5. Spoon 2 tablespoons marinara on one half of each piece, leaving a clean edge. Add a handful of mozzarella and a few pepperoni slices. Do not overfill.
  6. Fold the dough over to cover the filling, press edges to seal, and crimp with a fork or pinch firmly to close.
  7. Brush each calzone with beaten egg for a golden top, and sprinkle a little Parmesan if you want.
Cooking
  1. Place calzones in the air fryer basket, seam side down, leaving space so air can move.
  2. Cook at 370°F for 8 to 12 minutes, until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted. You may need to cook in batches.
  3. Let the calzones rest for 2 minutes before serving, they will be very hot inside.

Notes

Tips for success include: Don't overfill the calzones to prevent leakage, seal edges well, and use parchment or a light spray in the basket to stop sticking.
