Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Tear or cut the bread into 1-inch cubes.
- Warm the apple cider with a little brown sugar and cinnamon, then pour it over the bread so the pieces soak well.
- In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk or cream, vanilla extract, and salt.
- Stir in the chopped pecans and pour the egg mixture over the soaked bread.
- Press the bread down gently so it absorbs the liquid.
- Let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes.
Baking
- Bake in a buttered dish for 40 to 50 minutes, until the center is set and the top is golden.
- Let it rest for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
Use day old bread for the best texture and cut bread into even cubes for consistent soaking. Check doneness by inserting a knife in the center; it should come out mostly clean.
