Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, salt, and garlic powder.
- Add the cold butter and use your fingers or a pastry cutter to work it into the flour until the mix looks like coarse crumbs.
- Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese.
- In a small bowl, mix the milk and beaten egg, then pour into the dry mix and stir until just combined. Do not overmix; the dough will be sticky.
- Drop spoonfuls of dough onto the baking sheet, making about 12 biscuits, spaced for rising.
Baking
- Bake for 12 to 15 minutes until the tops are golden and the centers are set.
- While the biscuits bake, mix the melted butter, garlic powder, parsley, and pinch of salt for the topping.
- When the biscuits come out of the oven, brush them with the garlic butter immediately to allow it to soak in.
- Serve warm.
Notes
Use cold butter for flaky biscuits and avoid overmixing. Freshly shredded cheddar is recommended.
