Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, salt, and garlic powder.
- Add the cold butter. Use your fingers or a pastry cutter to work the butter into the flour until the mix looks like coarse crumbs.
- Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese.
- In a small bowl, mix the milk and beaten egg. Pour this into the dry mix and stir until just combined, do not overmix. The dough will be sticky.
- Drop spoonfuls of dough onto the baking sheet, about 12 biscuits. Space them so they can rise.
Baking
- Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, until the tops are golden and the centers are set.
- While the biscuits bake, mix the melted butter, garlic powder, parsley, and a pinch of salt for the topping.
- When the biscuits come out of the oven, brush them with the garlic butter right away so the butter soaks in. Serve warm.
Notes
For best results, use cold butter, do not overmix the dough, and brush with garlic butter immediately after baking. Variations include adding cayenne or chive for extra flavor.
