  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 cup buttermilk

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a cake pan.
  2. In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and brown sugar until fluffy.
  3. Add the molasses and mix until well combined.
  4. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, ensuring each is fully mixed before adding the next.
  5. In another bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda, and spices.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the buttermilk. Mix until just combined.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.
Baking
  1. Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  2. Allow to cool before serving.

Notes

To ensure your cake turns out perfectly, measure your ingredients accurately. Don’t over-mix the batter to avoid a denser cake. Consider adding a sprinkle of powdered sugar on top or pairing it with vanilla ice cream.
