  • 2 cups all-purpose flour For the bread base
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter Room temperature
  • 1 cup brown sugar Packed
  • 2 large eggs Beaten
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups chopped apples Use tart apples like Granny Smith
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts Optional, like pecans or walnuts
Praline Topping
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar For the topping
  • 1/2 cup pecans or walnuts Chopped, for the praline topping

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a loaf pan.
  2. In a bowl, mix together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and ground cinnamon.
  3. In another bowl, beat the butter and brown sugar until smooth.
  4. Add eggs and vanilla to the wet mixture and combine well.
  5. Stir the dry mix into the wet mix gradually until just combined.
  6. Fold in chopped apples and optional nuts.
  7. Spoon half the batter into the prepared pan, sprinkle some of the praline mix, add the remaining batter, and top with more praline crumbs.
Baking
  1. Bake the bread for about 50 to 65 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  2. Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes before turning it out onto a rack to cool completely.

Notes

Use tart apples for better texture, and chop them small for even baking. If the top browns too quickly, cover with foil for the last 15 minutes. Let cool before slicing to avoid crumbling.
